WHS
Exchange Show with Japan
The first part of the JWF/WHS Exchange has now been successfully
completed with 30 JWF paintings on display in conjunction with
this year’s Watercolor USA Exhibition. The JWF paintings
were both unique and inspirational, and provided a wonderful
exhibition to coincide with Watercolor USA 2009.
Three JWF delegation
members visited Springfield: Mr. Atsuhiko Sakai, JWF Exchange
Project Committee Coordinator, Ms Hiroko Tadakuma, Project Committee
Member and Ms Yoko Shirai, Project Committee Member. An agenda
for the delegation was provided by WHS Exchange Committee coordinators
Kenji Nishikawa and Hiroko Shikashio in order that they have
the opportunity to appreciate both the wide spectrum of styles
and painting techniques in the Watercolor USA Show, as well as
see a sampling of US culture in Springfield, Missouri. In addition,
Judi Betts gave a demonstration of her painting techniques.
WHS also recognized Lee Weiss as a Lifetime Achievement Award winner,
along with posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award winners Judy Richardson
Gard, Rob Erdle, Electra Stamelos and Georg Shook. Family and friends
of Lifetime Achievement Award winners came for the weekend to recognize
these deserving artists. Moments from these events can be seen in
photographs taken by Missie Dickens, WHS Historian.
